Guide to picking a TOEFL Exam Date

TOEFL is available throughout the whole year, but that does not mean any day is opportune for you to write the test. Despite having no limits to how many attempts you can take to write the TOEFL test, the costs associated with that can be a deterrent to most aspiring candidates. It is, therefore, important to pick your examination date wisely. There are a few things that you have to consider before picking an examination date.

Let’s take a quick look at some of these key considerations:-

Application(s) Deadlines :- If you want to appear for a TOEFL exam and sit successfully, you have to abide by all the exam regulations. As such, it is important to know your applications deadline so that, by the time you submit your applications, you will have your TOEFL scores. Universities have different policies on TEOFL scores submission, some may want them earlier, some have rolling deadlines. Make sure you know the exact deadline for your intended university/college. It is wiser to take your TOEFL test at least 2 months before your earliest deadline. This gives you an opportunity for a retake if you need to take one. Retakes are allowed 12 days after your first attempt hence, a month gives you ample time to retake and see your results.

·   Time to Study :- The dates you choose must give you ample time to study, grasp and understand the concepts that will be examined by TOEFL. The TOEFL syllabus is available on the ETS website, detailing what will be examined. Make use of past examination questions to familiarize yourself with the types of questions for practice. However, candidates can sometimes take the test at short notice without any prior study. Late registration for such instances, however, carries an additional fee.

·     Choose Exam Dates and Test Center :- Now that you know the deadlines of your applications, you can choose the dates that you can write the test. You will also have to pick the test center where you will avail yourself to take the examination. Having a laid out plan of events will minimize situations where you need to reschedule and incur additional costs. We suggest that your preferred test center be in your city or closer to avoid unforeseen logistical challenges that might affect your participation in the test.

·    Booking a Slot :- Once you have all the information you need in place, you can go ahead and book a slot at your preferred TEOFL test center. From there, it is time for you to prepare for the examination. Remember the times of your slot. You can put a calendar reminder until the day you write.

·   Coronavirus Response :- Due to the Coronavirus pandemic, TOEFL has introduced the TOEFL IBT Special Home Edition for students in countries affected. You will need to start registration on the TOELF website and then select the option for “Special Home Edition” when you are choosing test center and date. There are special requirements that you will have to meet before you take the test at your home;

           Computer meeting the equipment requirements as set out by TOEFL
